Tran Quoc Pagoda
Hanoi's ancient sanctuary on West Lake.

About Tran Quoc Pagoda
Tran Quoc Pagoda, Hanoi's oldest Buddhist temple, is an iconic symbol of Vietnam's religious and architectural heritage. Originally founded in the 6th century during the reign of Emperor Ly Nam De, the pagoda was initially constructed on the banks of the Red River. Over the centuries, it was relocated to its current picturesque location on a small island in West Lake, affording it a setting of unparalleled serenity and beauty. The pagoda complex is characterized by its towering lotus-shaped stupa, standing at 15 meters tall with its 11 levels, each adorned with intricately carved statues of Amitabha Buddha. Visitors can meander through the well-manicured gardens, explore the main shrine hall adorned with sacred relics and Buddhist iconography, and admire the ancient bodhi tree, a descendant of the sacred tree in Bodh Gaya, under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. As you wander the grounds, the soft chimes of temple bells and the gentle rustle of leaves create a meditative atmosphere, inviting you to pause and reflect. In addition to its spiritual offerings, Tran Quoc Pagoda is conveniently located near other notable attractions, such as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the bustling Old Quarter, making it an ideal stop on any Hanoi itinerary. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or simply a visitor in search of beauty, Tran Quoc Pagoda offers a timeless glimpse into the soul of Vietnam.
