Sun and Moon Pagodas
Twin pagodas on Shanhu Lake, blending tradition and beauty.

About Sun and Moon Pagodas
The Sun and Moon Pagodas, located on the tranquil waters of Shanhu Lake in Guilin, are iconic symbols of the city’s rich cultural heritage. These two pagodas, also known as the Twin Towers, are an architectural feat that attract visitors from all over the world. The Sun Pagoda, reaching a height of 41 meters, is the tallest copper pagoda in the world, and its golden hue is a striking contrast to the silvery Moon Pagoda, which stands 35 meters tall. Built during the Tang Dynasty, these structures were rebuilt in 2001 using modern materials while retaining their ancient charm. Visitors can explore the interior of the Sun Pagoda, which is accessible via an underwater tunnel, offering an immersive journey into the history and artistry that these pagodas represent. Inside, the Sun Pagoda is home to exquisite Buddhist relics and offers panoramic views of Guilin from its upper levels. The Moon Pagoda, although not accessible to the public, elegantly complements its twin with its shimmering presence. As dusk falls, the pagodas are illuminated, casting a magical reflection on the lake’s surface. Nearby, visitors can also explore the vibrant Ronghu Lake and the bustling Zhengyang Pedestrian Street, making a visit to the Sun and Moon Pagodas a highlight of any Guilin itinerary.
