About Paronella Park
Paronella Park, located just an hour’s drive south of Cairns, is a testament to one man's dream and determination. José Paronella, a visionary Spanish immigrant, purchased the land in 1929 and spent the following years constructing a series of grand structures inspired by his love for architecture and nature. Today, Paronella Park stands as a cherished heritage site, offering visitors an immersive experience into its storied past. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the spectacular sight of the park’s main attraction, the Grand Staircase, leading to the majestic Mena Creek Falls. The surrounding gardens are a delight to wander, with over 7,000 tropical plants and trees providing a lush canopy overhead. A stroll through the park reveals the remnants of José’s dream castle, the enchanting Lovers Lane, and the stunning Kauri Avenue. Paronella Park is not just a place of natural beauty; it is also rich in history. The original hydroelectric system, installed by José himself, is still operational, providing sustainable energy to the park. Guided tours are available throughout the day, offering fascinating insights into the park's history and José's remarkable life. Visitors can enjoy a picnic by the falls, explore the museum, or take part in the nightly light show that illuminates the park’s features in a dazzling display. Nearby, the Mena Creek Hotel and other local attractions offer additional opportunities to explore the region’s cultural and natural heritage.
